India is already the largest origin of UK imports of toor, urad and moong, lentils and chickpeas by value (HMRC trade data, 2025). Pulses carry no UK duty and, unlike Indian spices, sesame and groundnuts, are not on the GB high-risk food list, so a container clears without the official certificate and pre-export laboratory results those products now need.
That makes dals the simplest line to trial with us: a known product, a predictable landing cost and a short list of documents.
What to put in your specification
- Product and type, for example toor dal plain (unpolished) or polished
- Size or count for whole chickpeas
- Moisture, foreign matter, broken and damaged grain limits
- Pesticide residue and mycotoxin testing, with the laboratory and method
- Bag size, bag type, labelling and palletisation
- Destination port and Incoterm (FOB India, CFR or CIF UK)

Questions UK buyers ask
Is there UK import duty on Indian pulses?
No. Chickpeas, urad, moong, lentils and toor from India carry 0% duty under the UK Global Tariff, and the UK-India trade agreement preference is also 0%. Check the commodity code for your product on the UK Trade Tariff before you price.
Do Indian pulses need a health certificate or border checks in Great Britain?
Pulses and dals from India are not listed as high-risk food not of animal origin in SI 2025/1162, so they do not need the official certificate and laboratory results that Indian spices, sesame and groundnuts now need. Your normal import, food safety and labelling obligations still apply.
What is the minimum order?
One 20ft container, roughly 25 MT depending on the product and bag size. We can combine dals in one container by agreement.
Can I see a sample before I order?
Yes. We send labelled samples with the matching specification so your QC team can check size, colour, moisture and foreign matter before you commit.

Bridgewares Global Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17315431). Our Indian company in Chennai manages mills, testing and export documents.
