Container crane loading a shipping container at a commercial port

Logistics & ports

Ferrous scrap from UK and EU origins is typically moved by sea in containers or bulk depending on grade, supplier capability, and buyer preference. Incoterms® such as FOB or CIF allocate freight and insurance differently; your contract and bank (if any) must match the commercial reality you intend. See ICC Incoterms for official rules text.

Indian discharge ports (examples)

Many programmes discharge at major hubs with established customs and scanning infrastructure. Common routing discussions include:

  • Mundra (Gujarat)

Large private port complex; frequent choice for western India industrial buyers.

  • JNPT / Nhava Sheva (Maharashtra)

Major container gateway serving Mumbai and the wider west coast.

  • Chennai (Tamil Nadu)

Key east-coast option when your inland routing favours southern India.

  • Kandla (Gujarat)

Historic west-coast port; sometimes used as an alternative depending on carrier schedules.

Port choice is subject to carrier availability, buyer location, and regulatory constraints—confirm with your forwarder and clearing agent.

Inspection timing relative to loading

Banks and buyers usually expect inspection activity to be sequenced so that certificates reflect what was agreed in the contract. In practice, that means booking surveyors with enough lead time before the load window and avoiding ad-hoc changes that invalidate agreed sampling or weight methods. Bridgewares aligns on a written plan per shipment.
