Sona Masoori Rice
Oryza sativa L. — medium grain, lightweight & aromatic
Sona Masoori is a lightweight medium grain, around 5.0 mm, and it sells on cooked texture rather than on length: it stays soft and non-sticky, which is why it dominates South Indian household and food-service demand and travels well into US, Canadian and Gulf ethnic retail. Purity is contracted at 98% minimum with broken grains at 2% maximum. Single or double polished, raw or steam, specified per contract — polish level is the detail most often left vague in competing offers and the one most likely to cause a claim, so fix it in writing. Two harvests, November–January and April–May, mean supply is available most of the year rather than concentrated in a single window.
